Before there was pretty much everything, there was Eric Clapton. If you listen to his debut with the Blues breakers, in 1966 and compare to anything released before, you'll never find such rich saturated and vibey licks. It was like Keith Moon, but with a guitar. That opened a million doors to pretty much any guitar player in the world, such as Jimi Hendrix, Jimmy Page, Jeff Beck, Tony Iommi, Carlos Santana, Mick Taylor (devastating guitar player), Angus Young, to name a few... everyone got into that new style of playing a powerful blues lick. It created the guitar hero tradition.
